How are CDs made for Music and Games

Compact Discs are fascinating pieces of technology, and they essentially hold data such as music, games, videos and images among many other forms of media. But how are these fascinating formats created.

It all starts with polishing glass to get a super smooth surface, then the glass is coated with a light material. The digital data is then transferred to the disc while the development of light sensitive film also occurs with a special chemical.

Then the disc is electroplated, while there is an injection of molten polycarbonate and the addition of aluminium for protection. To offer further protection a varnishing agent is often applied, while print work or artwork can then be added to the side which is not read.

So there you have it, perhaps CDs are more advanced than many people may think, and they do benefit from reasonable layers of protection.
